The News
Hopefully, you weren’t paying attention to the counter on the website with the December release of Badlands Cured. I’m planning on releasing it next year once book 3 in the Badlands Born series is out of the draft stage and into final production. There’s some spinning plates going on in the background here that without going into tedious detail, require that book 2 not be published until book 3 has a hard release date.
I am excited about the series and I think you’re going to be excited too. If you already have Badlands Born, congratulations, you will have a rare first edition! The second edition will cut some of the interesting but not terribly important first chapters in order to get the story off to a quicker start, with some light continuity editing to make everything make sense. Book 2, Badlands Cursed, will pick up Jasmine’s quest right where we left her and ramp up the crazy awesomeness to 11.
While I can’t talk much about book 3 without spoilers, if you’re paying attention to the Pinterest boards you can find hints about the story setting and characters. Keep in mind that the images there are inspirational only, and may bear little resemblance to the finished story (though you will see echoes their echoes).
The Gift
Long ago, I had a writing partner who wrote depressing Christmas stories as a way to cope with all the stress around the holidays. While it might seem counter-intuitive at first, a depressing Christmas story releases all that hidden anxiety and subconscious rage many feel around this season where our expectations rarely match our holiday ideal. She wrote stories every year eventually becoming its own tradition in our little writer’s group. In that spirit, I’m sharing a depressing Christmas story of my own that I wrote years ago and I hope it brightens your holiday.
Remember, I was laughing the whole time while writing it.
