Making Connections
I hope you’re are doing well and staying safe. The other day I had a virtual happy hour with some of my writing friends and while we’re all okay, some of us are doing better than others. I’m still processing what 2020 has brought so far, but I’ve come to one conclusion: we need to stay connected with each other. It’s too easy to stay in our homes and social media echo chambers until our view of the world becomes warped and the COVID-19 situation has only poured gasoline on the fire. On most days I’m perfectly happy to stay in my cocoon and write my stories but this morning I made the effort to make some offhand comment to a stranger at the grocery store. It was maybe a ten second conversation, but that little bit of social interaction made me feel a little less isolated. Give it a try and see if it works for you.
Almost a Best-seller
Well, this month I launched a book, can’t remember if I told you all about it. It’s been going well and I’ve been grateful for the response so far. Thank you for all the love and support! While Badlands Cursed is doing well, Badlands Born is seeing a surge and is climbing up the charts, now sitting at #114 in one of its categories. With a little bit more luck, sales, and Kindle Unlimited page reads it could go into the top 100, which would make it an Amazon best-seller. Neat, eh?
Reader Goodies
The Jethro Parables
I just finished the Jethro Parables by Justin Fillmore and recommend it.The Jethro Parables is a wonderfully written story about a man trying to scratch out a living in a post-apocalyptic dust bowl, struggling to mind his own business but getting caught up in events around him. As he chooses between keeping his head down and doing the right thing, a powerful story emerges. It reminded me of Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked this Way Comes crossed with the old spaghetti westerns like Pale Rider and High Plains Drifter. This story is a page-turner with some serious heft behind it, a rare combination. It’s on Kindle Unlimited or you can get it from the author’s site here.
Dystopian Fantasy
I’ve teamed up with other authors for a dystopian fantasy promotion at Story Origin. It’s a small collection but there are some intriguing titles available. I’ll probably check out Outburst and can’t resist Our Lady of Holy Death’s cover. Take a look around and see what interests you!
