Hello, everyone! I’m proud to say that Rise of the Dark AI: Uplift is live at Ream Stories. I’ll be sure to put a link to it at the end of this note, but first let’s discuss how you’re going to get your hands on it. And to do that, we have to talk about Ream.
Why Ream?
Ream is an online platform built for fiction subscriptions. I looked at similar services like Patreon, Substack, and Medium, but each of those services are either built for club-style memberships (Patreon) or non-fiction (Substack and Medium). So while I could kinda-sorta make those solutions work, it would be a headache for me to set up and maintain, while also not giving you all the best reading experience.
How does it work?
- If you want to read the story, sign up for a reader account at Ream Stories.
- Either search for Wade Peterson or click the direct link to my author page at the end of this note.
- Choose to sign up for one of the paid tiers or become a follower for free.
- Start reading the story. New chapters will appear every Friday at 8:00 a.m. CST.

What’s the difference between a follower and a subscriber?
Followers and subscribers all get access to the story. The difference is subscribers get earlier access to the story based on their level of support, with other perks.
- Follower (Free) Followers can read a new chapter every Friday.
- Tier 1: ($5/month) Get access to the story 2 weeks before followers.
- Tier 2: ($10/month) Just like Tier 1, but you’ll get access to the story 4 weeks before followers. Plus, everyone at this level will get a free ebook copy of the story when it completes.
- Tier 3: ($25/month) Just like Tier 2, but you get access 6 weeks before followers, the ebook on completion, and access to my back catalog of stories.
And practically, that works how?
As of right now, everyone who signs up as a follower or subscriber can read the first four chapters of Uplift. Tier 3 subscribers will see regular chapter drops every Friday starting with Chapter 5 on January 26. Tier two subscribers will see regular drops starting February 8, Tier One on February 29, and followers on March 8.

Can I move between tiers or cancel?

Do I have to read on a computer?

What else?
Remember that this story is in early access, meaning that I’m putting out the story in raw form with light editing. I give each chapter a once-over before hitting the publish button, but I won’t catch everything. There will be typos and awkward sentences. I’ll repeat myself in some places, but not explain where something came from in others.
So why bother?
This is the story in raw form. If you’re interested in seeing how a novel is put together, this is the ultimate look behind the curtain. Not only will you have the opportunity for a before-and-after look at the writing process, you’ll also get a deeper understanding of the story world as characters meander, info-dump. and monologue in places that typically get cut out in the final edit. If there’s interest, I can make available outlines, revision notes, outtakes, bloopers, and places where I break fourth wall.
Also, this is something brand new and still in an experimental phase. Subscribers get to vote on shaping what the reward tiers look like, character names, story lines, how we want to talk to each other (Zoom calls? A Discord server? Just hanging out on the community page?). At the very least, you’ll get a good story. From there, we can make this whatever we want. Do you want to be a ground-floor OG? This is your chance.
