I’m proud to announce that the entire Badlands Born series is now available everywhere, on all platforms!.

That means…

Badlands Born on your Nook!

Badlands Cursed on any phone!

Enter the Samurai on Kobo!

It’s been a long time coming, too long, really. For those of you who’ve stuck by the stories even though you’d rather not get them through Amazon, thank you.

How Did We Get Here?

When I released Badlands Born, it was during the early stages of Kindle Unlimited (KU) and the indie publishing world was swooning over its possibilities. Sure, authors didn’t make as much from a KU borrow as from a sale, but especially in the romance and fantasy genres, authors were making a killing from their segment’s voracious readers. Common wisdom held that a fantasy author like myself should at least try KU, which meant remaining exclusive to Amazon.

So I went exclusive with Amazon but somehow the armored cars full of cash couldn’t find my house. For various reasons, some of which I’m probably not even aware of, Badlands Born never found a rabid fan base among KU readers. I experimented with several ads, promos, and prayers to the gods of publishing, but to no avail.  To make things worse, I’m a stubborn man and unwilling to admit defeat, always thinking I missed some clue to unlock the puzzle. Every time I thought about going wide with the series to other platforms, I’d get another idea for unlocking the KU mystery.

“I’ll try this one thing, then I’ll switch,” I told myself. “Just one more thing.”

For those of you familiar with turn-based strategy games, this is a variation of the “Just one more turn” syndrome.

What Changed?

When I ran a Kickstarter for the Omnibus, KU’s terms of service forced me to remove the series from the program and when the Kickstarter was over, its success made me question my need to keep banging my head against the KU puzzle wall. So over these past few months I’ve been working at  moving the series to all the other major platforms and finally pressed the launch button this month.
